UK's Teesport October box volume hits all-time high of 54,400 TEU

PD Ports has announced that Teesport, a deep-water port on England's east coast, handled a record 54,400 TEU in October, following an exceptional five-week period in September.
A significant driver of this growth is the increasing number of containers and trailers shipped from continental Europe to Teesport, which experienced an overall volume increase higher than any other UK port in 2017, according to annual maritime statistics published by the Department for International Trade.
The growth in the port's container shipping business has been supported by additional vessel calls from shipping lines A2B-online, Containerships and Unifeeder that provide extra and more frequent connections to Botlek and Dunkerque, higher ferry volumes and the improved performance of its intermodal rail terminal, reported SteelGuru, India.
Investment in a fifth ship-to-shore crane and three rubber tyre gantry cranes in the last two years has been fundamental in enabling the port to manage container volume growth.
