SIERRA LEONE's Freetown Terminal which became operational in September after two years of construction is now capable of docking 6,000-TEU vessels with 13 metres alongside a 270-metre quay.

Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio and Bollore Transport & Logistics CEO Cyrille Bollore attended the official ceremony celebrating the end of the extension work on Freetown Terminal,

Since Bollore Ports won the international tender launched by the Sierra Leone authorities in March 2011, every effort has been made to bring the West African terminal up to the highest international standards.

As a first step, the existing yards were refurbished, and modern equipment purchased, which made possible to handle a traffic increase of over 30 per cent. In October 2016, major extension work started, and they were completed on time, said Mumbai's Stat Trade Times.

"This partnership between the Sierra Leone government and the Bollore Group is an illustration of a successful public-private partnership, we are very proud of the work accomplished by our teams. Our commitment to the country is long-term and we really want to support its logistic transformation to contribute to the growth of Sierra Leone's economy," said Mr Bollore.
