AN eighth Boeing 777 freighter has been delivered to Ethiopian Cargo and Logistics Services' home base at Bole International Airport.

The carrier has more freighters on order to realise the targets set out in its Vision 2025 growth road map that anticipates a fleet of 19 freighter aircraft will transport 820,000 tonnes of cargo across its network annually, generating revenues of US$2 billion per year.

Ethiopian Group chief executive Tewolde GebreMariam was quoted as saying in a report by London's Air Cargo News: "The new aircraft will help us bolster our leading role in cargo operation in Africa and beyond, further expanding our commendable contribution in boosting the continent's air freight export/import traffic as laid out in our Vision 2025.

"As the largest cargo operator in Africa, we are currently serving over 44 international dedicated freighter destinations in the Africa, the Gulf, Middle East, Asia, the Americas and Europe, augmenting the export of perishable farm products from the continent of Africa and the import of high value industrial goods."

The chief executive added: "With more freighters on order, we are set to consolidate our role in availing much needed air freight service within Africa and beyond, further catalysing the continent's economic growth."
