Singapore box volumes surge 6.5pc to 3.2m TEU in October

THE port of Singapore has moved higher container throughput in October both on a year-on-year and month-on-month comparisons, according to data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).
The Lion City port registered volumes of 3.15 million TEU in October, an increase of 6.4 per cent compared to 2.96 million TEU seen in the same period of last year, MPA figures showed.
Last month's throughput also rose by 5.3 per cent compared to 2.99 million TEU handled in September this year, according to Seatrade Maritime News of Colchester, UK.
In the first 10 months of this year, Singapore recorded a total throughput of 30.45 million TEU, up 9.8 per cent from 27.73 million TEU posted in the previous corresponding period.
Singapore is the world's second largest container port, behind China's Shanghai port, which handled a total throughput of 31.4 million TEU in the first 10 months.
