UPS Freight workers represented by the Teamsters Union have ratified a new five-year agreement that affects 11,600 employees. Their yes-vote enabled the immediate resumption of normal operations, according to management.

UPS recently froze the collection of less-than-truckload (LTL) cargo ahead of the vote that was conducted at local union meetings over a four-day period, reported American Shipper.

Management said the agreement "rewards our employees for their contributions to the success of the company, while enabling UPS to remain competitive."

The Teamsters said members approved the contract, "the company's last, best and final offer," by a 77 per cent to 23 per cent margin.

UPS said: "We will resume normal operations and will immediately begin accepting new volume from UPS Freight customers. Our teams began contacting customers immediately after ratification."
