Valencia box volume up 4.8pc to 5m TEU buoyed by strong imports

THE Spanish port of Valencia saw its container throughput rise 4.8 per cent to five million TEU in the 12 months to the end of October.
A breakdown of the results show that loaded container volumes rose by three per cent year on year to 3.87 million TEU on the back of a strong import performance, with loaded inbound containers up 11 per cent. Export volumes continued to fall, with loaded export containers down one per cent. Transit containers increased by two per cent.
During October the container terminals of the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) handled a total of 472,403 TEU, representing a year-on-year increase of 11 per cent.
Over the first 10 months of the calendar year, the port handled 4.27 million TEU, up 5.2 per cent compared to the same period a year earlier, reported UK's Container Management.
From January to October loaded containers rose three per cent driven by a 10 per cent increase in import volumes, and transit traffic was up by three per cent. However, loaded export container volumes declined by two per cent, while empty container volumes swelled by 13 per cent.
