TAIWAN's TS Lines is purchasing up to four 2,700-TEU containerships from CSSC-affiliated Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding to expand its self-owned fleet.
The contract signed between the two parties contains a firm order for two ships and an option for another two ships, reported Singapore's Splash 247.
The ships will be fitted with scrubbers and deliveries are scheduled to commence from June 2021.
According to the containership operator, it is also looking to acquire 4,500 TEU ships through either newbuilding projects or secondhand purchases. Its fleet currently comprises 40 ships, seven of which are self-owned. This latest order raises the number of vessels it has on order to nine.
In February, TS Lines unveiled a plan to expand its self-owned fleet to 18 ships.
