THE 9,662-TEU Maersk Salina docked at Maersk's APM Terminals Pipavav in Gujarat, representing the first call of its FM3 intra-Asia service, reported the Hindu daily's Business Line.

The FM3 rotation is Malaysia's Tanjung Pelepas, Colombo, Mumbai-Nhava Sheva, Singapore, Dalian, Xingang, Qingdao, Busan, Gwangyang and Ningbo.

The Maersk Salina loaded seafood, polymers, chemicals, dyes and tyres for export. Imports included home appliances, auto parts, machinery, plastic items, electrical/electronic goods and furniture, said APMT Pipavav managing director Keld Pederson.

"We are persistent in our endeavour to offer best services to our customers by quick turnaround of cargo at the berth, at the yard and at the gate," he said.

"The addition by Maersk takes us one step closer in providing easy access to our customers located in north and west hinterland in India with key markets across the globe," Mr Pederson said.

APMT Pipavav bills itself as a gateway for containers, general cargo, bulk, liquid and ro-ro serving customers in Gujarat with road and rail links to India's hinterland and northwest.

The current annual general cargo capacity includes five million tonnes of dry bulk, two million tonnes of liquid bulk, 250,000 cars and a container volume of 1.35 million TEU.
