COSCO Shipping Ports (CSP) with its overseas terminals surpassing volume of its Pearl River Delta home cluster with throughput up 19 per cent to 6.9 million TEU world wide.

Volumes at its Bohai Rim terminals rose 23 per cent to 1.3 million TEU. The continued strong growth at the company's northern gateway ports was driven by Dalian Container Terminal, where throughput increased by half to 657,200 TEU, up from 442,200 TEU in the same month last year.

The Yangtze River Delta region saw the slowest growth in the group, with throughput rising five per cent to 1.4 million TEU. However, the Pearl River Delta ports achieved throughput growth of 15 per cent to 1.86 million TEU, slightly behind the 1.88 million TEU the port group's overseas terminals collectively handled in February.

While the Hong Kong and Guangzhou ports cluster within the segment saw flat to negative growth, Yantian International Container Terminals achieved a strong come back, with box traffic surging 40 per cent to 906,400 TEU.

Among the group's newer ports along the southern coasts, the southeast coast ports continued to grow strongly, with throughput rising 17 per cent to 376,100 TEU. The sole southwest coast port at Guangxi Qinzhou International Container Terminal, however, suffered a throughput decline of nine per cent in February to 63,600 TEU.
