Maersk Line cuts Asia-Europe, Med strings to avoid overcapacity

MAERSK Line is making changes to its Asia-North Europe and Asia-Mediterranean networks to improve schedule reliability and prevent overcapacity. The amendments to the westbound sailings will come into effect in early May.

"We are pleased to provide our customers with this revised network which will offer them a higher level of cargo arrival reliability," said Europe trade head Johan Sigsgaard, reported AJOT.

Port congestion and adverse weather conditions have impacted reliability on Asia-Europe services. Changes introduced by the carrier will address these challenges by improving buffers in schedules, making it easier to accommodate potential disruptions and thus minimising the impact on service delivery.

"Forced port omissions disrupt cargo flows and impact our customers' supply chains. This network is designed to reduce the necessity to omit ports," added Mr Sigsgaard.

Overall on the North Europe and Mediterranean strings 17 port calls will be removed and an additional vessel will be added to the network.
