    FESCO's Vladivostok volume soars 42pc to 467,940 TEU, ro-ro up 52pc

    THE Vladivostok Sea Commercial Port (VSCP), part of FESCO Transportation Group, container volume in 2017 soared 42 per cent year on year to 467,940 TEU, the company announced.

    Annual general cargo also shot up 43 per cent to 2.99 million tonnes, will ro-ro soared 52 per cent to 37,800 units.

    FESCO also completed the dredging and attendant dock reconstruction of two berths, increasing the draft alongside of berths 15 and 16 1.4 metres to 11.4 metres. For the vessels of less than 216 metres the depth at berth 15 will now be 11.9 metres.

    The container terminal modernisation project includes also purchase of new handling equipment and reconstruction of berth and road pavement. 

    In June 2018, the port intends to add for operation 7,950-square metres of reinforced paved area for container handling and also expects 20 reachstackers, port trailers and rail mounted gantry cranes to be delivered.

    The port handles 15 regular international and cabotage lines linking Vladivostok with eight countries as well as with other Russian Far East regions.

    In 2017, Vladivostok expanded its connectivity by adding Maersk's Singapore-based MCC Transport that provides a regular liner service between Vladivostok and the ports of Jakarta, Surabaya, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Ningbo, Shanghai, Kwangyang and Busan.

    The port and FESCO is also working on expanding rail services to bring fast container delivery to/from various Russian regions via the Trans-Siberian Railway Network, having last year launched block trains to Krasnoyarsk (pop 973,000), 3,012 kilometres away, north of western Outer Mongolia, and to Ekaterinburg (pop 1.4 million), 5,000 kilometres further west, halfway to Moscow.
