Chinese New Year break sees container spot rates drop across major trades

SPOT rates for shipping containers from Asia to northern Europe in the week ending Friday dropped 5.6 per cent to US$906 per TEU, according to the Shanghai Containerised Freight Index (SCFI).
Asia-Mediterranean trade fell 4.4 per cent to $920 per TEU. Asia to US west coast suffered a significant eight per cent plunge to $1,834 per FEU while those to the east coast were off 2.8 per cent to $2,968 per FEU.
