CARGOLUX has started its new weekly cargo flight service, from Luxembourg Airport to Narita International Airport in Japan, with Boeing 747-8 freighter.

The service has been launched as per the cooperation agreement with Nippon Cargo Airlines (NCA), which will codeshare Cargolux's cargo flights between Luxembourg and Tokyo.

Chief executive officer, Cargolux, Richard Forson, said: "Japan has played an important role in Cargolux's Far East network, and we are looking forward to support Japan's trade lanes, to and from Europe."

Cargolux's weekly cargo flight to Narita will leave Luxembourg every Tuesday evening, and arrive at the Narita International Airport on Wednesday afternoon. The return flight will arrive at Luxembourg on Thursday via Incheon and Novosibirsk.

As Cargolux and NCA flights are operated on different days, this arrangement will offer additional market opportunities for both airlines on the Europe-Narita sector, while at the same time, promote competition between the partner airlines, reports Navi Mumbai's STAT Times.

Over two million tonnes of air cargo volume is handled at the Narita Airport, every year, which accounts for more than 50 per cent of the international air cargo in Japan. The major import items are prestige cars, communications equipment, pharmaceuticals and semiconductors and electronic components.

Major export items, include automobile parts, semiconductors, electronic components and other manufacturing devices, as well as scientific optical equipment.
