Seaspan Shipyards opens in Vancouver as part of government initiative

SEASPAN Shipyards has opened its new office in North Vancouver as a collaborative space for local shipyards to do pre-production work under the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) with the federal government.
The NSS is an initiative to renew Canada's fleet of large ships, rebuild the shipbuilding industry and create jobs to spur economic growth.
The opening of the office follows the launch of the first large ship to be designed and built under the NSS. Work will focus on the planning, design, engineering and procurement of the next classes of vessels for the Canadian Coast Guard and the Royal Canadian Navy, London's (VPO) Vessel Performance Optimisation reported.
Said North Vancouver Liberal MP Jonathan Wilkinson: "Seaspan is a significant part of our community and a major employer in North Vancouver and throughout the lower mainland. The opening of its new office further demonstrates Seaspan's commitment to investing locally and providing more opportunities for years to come."
