FRANKFURT Airport said passenger numbers are plunging, almost halving in recent days because of the coronavirus pandemic, reports Bloomberg.
The tally slumped 30 per cent in one week, double the drop seen toward the end of February, said Fraport, which runs Europe's fourth-busiest air hub.
The slide has accelerated to 45 per cent in past days and the airport is preparing for a 60 per cent decline, said Fraport CEO Stefan Schulte.
While airports worldwide are taking a hit from the virus, Frankfurt is especially exposed because its home carrier Lufthansa relies on Italy, which has the most cases of any European country, and is also a major airline serving China.
