Macau's port container volume slips 4.5pc but box cargo by land surges 15pc

THE gross weight of containerised cargo to Macau by land in February grew by 15.1 per cent to 996 tonnes compared to the same month last year.
The latest report from the Macau's Statistics and Census Service showed that the cargo passing through the Cotai checkpoint increased by 23.7 per cent to 970 tonnes.
But the gross weight of port containerised cargo went down by 4.5 percent to 7,585 tonnes, with cargo handled at the Kaho Harbour plunging 52.1 per cent to 1,771 tonnes. Container throughput at the Inner Harbour rose by 36.9 per cent to 5,814 tonnes.
In the first two months, the gross weight of containerised cargo by land increased by 6.3 per cent year on year to 3,301 tonnes, while port containerised cargo decreased by 22.0 per cent to 18,611 tonnes.
Macau International Airport handled 645 tonnes of air cargo in February, a drop of 56.5 per compared to the same month in 2019. The gross weight of inward cargo totaled (235 tonnes), outward cargo (337 tonnes) and transit cargo (73 tonnes), representing declines of 46.0 per cent, 60.5 per cent and 62.6 per cent respectively.
In the first two months of the year, air cargo volume fell by 19.6 per cent to 4,074 tonnes, according to Xinhua.
