    MSC levies Panama Canal Emergency Surcharge on lock troubles

    THE Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) will levy a Panama Canal Emergency Surcharge May 2 of US$30 per container following transit difficulties arising from the announcement of the "Maximum Authorised Draft for Neopanamax Locks", the company announced.

    The charge will apply voyages from Mexico/Canada east coast to Israel and Africa. It will also apply to voyages from US east coast ports to Oceania, Asia, Mexico/Canada West Coast

    Effective April 30, the charge will be levied on voyages from Turkey, East Med (except Israel), North Africa (except Agadir), Black Sea excluding European Economic Area (EEA) countries, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.

    Also effective April 30, voyages from Turkey, East Med (except Israel), North Africa (except Agadir), Black Sea excluding EEA countries.

    To the US Pacific the charge will be US$30 per box while from Syria, it will be EUR30 per box.
