MAERSK unit APM Terminals Pipavav terminal on the north west coast India has received substantial help from its parent Maersk Line with an intra-Asia call, reports IHS Media.
APM Terminals Pipavav bounced back dramatically in the last fiscal quarter on the strength of Maersk Line calls after a long demand drought.
Statistics show APM Terminals Pipavav's volume rose to an all-time high of 205,000 TEU in the first quarter, up 30 per cent year on year.
That strong uptrend illustrates how much the private, minor port benefited from a Maersk intra-Asia call, named the Far East-Indian Subcontinent Service (FI3), which began in January, and from a joint call from Cosco and Wan Hai under a five-vessel CI1 loop, on the same trade lane from February.
Pipavav also docked 7,226-TEU Adrian Maersk, the biggest ship to call in the first quarter. Maersk also introduced a direct call at Pipavav on its Europe-Middle East (ME1) loop last year.
With rail service upgrades, APMT Pipavav's volume has increased with 62,626 TEU lifted in January, 69,478 TEU in February and 69,478 TEU in March, statistics show.
