THE 18,800 TEU Maltese-flagged Al Muraykh was grounded in the Suez Canal, causing an interruption in the flow of traffic, reports Fort Lauderdale's Maritime Executive.
The containership lost power and grounded in the southbound traffic lanes. Two dozen vessels ahead of the ship weren't affected and continued their transit while nine others were caught behind the ship. The northbound convoy was also suspended.
Hapag Lloyd, owner of the ship, expects the ship to proceed on its voyage uninterrupted. The incident comes as the second ship in two months that has grounded in the Suez Canal.
