US President Joe Biden is forgoing a new tariff rotation in its dispute with the EU over illegal aid to Boeing Co and Airbus SE, reports Bloomberg News.
The move could help de-escalate a 17-year-old dispute between the two nations to update or rotate the products that face tariffs in a carousel strategy to increase the political impact of duties on another country.
Although the Trump administration wanted to reach a resolution, the administration imposed tariffs on additional products from the EU as part of the dispute.
The EU instituted duties on US$4 billion in goods from the US after gaining approval from the World Trade Organisation in November.
A year prior, the US sanctioned $7.5 billion in imports from the EU including French wine and Scotch whisky.
In December, the Trump administration imposed tariffs on additional EU products. The overall value of goods being hit remains $7.5 billion.
