Five forwarders continue online sales charge lead

FORWARDERS continue to improve their ability for providing instant quotes digitally, with five companies leading the way as others lag behind, reports London's Air Cargo World.
The five forwarders leading the charge since 2015 are Agility, DB Schenker, Dalsey, Hillblom and Lynn (DHL), Kuehne+Nagel and United Parcel Service (UPS), according to the booking portal Freightos.
The latest mystery shopper report from Freightos showed more than 25 per cent of digitally requested quotes were provided instantly by forwarders, compared to 18 per cent last year.
Overall, 70 per cent of requests still didn't result in a quote being received. Last year 60 per cent of forwarders have quote request forms easily found on their sites.
The booking portal has said it could be due to these forwarders focusing on small and medium (SME) shippers).
The company highlighted that larger shippers may want a more personal service, instead of booking online.
"It's been gratifying to see a quarter of the top 20 3PLs adopting the vision of digitised freight in just the last five years, providing better customer service with a lower cost of sale," said Freightos founder Zvi Schreiber.
"It is a little perplexing to see others still serving shippers in the same way they have for the last century. Millennial freight procurement professionals asked to wait days for a quote will take their freight spend elsewhere," said Mr Schreiber.
