TRITON International Limited of Bermuda, a chassis and intermodal container provider, posted a 49.3 per cent full year profit increase to US$115.2 million, drawn on revenues of $1,307 billion, down 2.7 per cent year on year.

In the fourth quarter, Triton net profit increased 49.3 per cent year on year to $77.2 million, drawn on revenues of $337.3 million, up 1.7 per cent.

"While trade activity in the first half of 2020 was weak due to lingering impacts from the trade dispute between the US and China and the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, global containerised trade volumes rebounded sharply in the third quarter and were well above pre-pandemic levels in the second half of the year," said CEO Brian Sondey.

"The second half surge in trade volumes was driven by the easing of the lockdowns in the United States and Europe at the end of the second quarter and a shift in consumer spending from experiences and services to goods," he said.

"Our customers did not anticipate this rebound, and shipping lines needed to add containers. Shipping lines have been primarily relying on the leasing market to fulfill requirements, and Triton secured a meaningful share," Mr Sondey said.
