EU trade bigger with US than China, despite counter claims

EUROSTAT's latest report reveals the EU has a higher trade flow with the US than with China, despite the fact that Europe's goods trade with China is greater than that with any other country, reports Politico.
That's because the goods trade statistics ignore the EU's trade in services, the inclusion of which makes the US Europe's top trading partner.
2019 numbers show a significant change as EU trade with China totalled US$682 billion and EU to US totalled $750 billion.
The US leads in that category as the first three quarters of 2020 show trade in services between the EU and US being $360 billion, five times more than EU and China, which totalled $64 billion.
Thus, if one looks at overall trade flows and not just trade in goods, the EU's largest trading partner is the US.
In short, if you look at overall trade flows and not just one kind of flow, it is clear that the EU's largest trading partner is actually the US, as it has been for decades.
US companies have also invested $55 billion in Europe, seven times more than what Chinese firms have invested in Europe.
Regardless of the Covid crisis, US companies earned $254 billion from their operations in Europe - 23 times what they earned in China.
