Italy's La Spezia sees 15.6pc decline in 2020 freight traffic

THE Port of La Spezia saw a 15.6 per cent drop in freight traffic with containers amounting to 1.17 million TEU, reports Genoa's Informare.
Freight traffic totalled 13.4 million tonnes compared to 15.9 million tonnes in 2019. The reduction primarily occurred during the first three quarters of 2020 with falls of 13.4 per cent, 26.6 per cent, and 11.7 per cent respectively.
Traffic of miscellaneous goods was 11.1 million tonnes, down 17 per cent. Containerised traffic amounted to 1.17 million TEU, down 16.7 per cent, of which 588,000-TEU were imports, down 16.5 per cent, and 585,000 exports, down 16.9 per cent. Transshipment traffic was down 48.3 per cent to 69,000-TEU.
The La Spezia Container Terminal (LSCT) of the Contship Italia group moved 1.08 million TEU, down 17.0 per cent. The Gulf Terminal of the Tarros Group moved 93,000-TEU, down 11.7 per cent.
The liquid bulk sector saw traffic of 2.2 million tonnes, up 3.3 per cent. In that, dry bulk was at 101,000 tonnes, down 72.7 per cent.
Quarter four traffic goods was 2.9 million TEU, down 9.8 per cent, with a container traffic of 332,000 TEU, down 3.0 per cent. Container traffic liquid bulk saw 401,000 tonnes, up 13.3 per cent. The traffic of the solid bulk was 3,000 tonnes, down 95.9 per cent.
The port of Marina di Carrara handled saw 2.6 million tonnes of goods, down 12.3 per cent.
