A BOEING 767 set an unofficial world distance record for twin-engine commercial airliners by flying 9,253 miles non-stop from Seattle to Nairobi, Kenya, the Boeing Commercial Airplane Group said, according to Associated Press.

The flight by a new 767-200ER was completed recently and lasted 18 hours, 29 minutes, Boeing said.

The aircraft was on the first part of a flight to the island of Borneo to deliver the airliner to the Royal Brunei Airlines, the national carrier of Brunei.

There were 20 passengers aboard and a crew of four. The aircraft, the first Boeing 767 for Royal Brunei's fleet, continued to Brunei.

Pending final verification, the National Aeronautic Association established the flight as a record, Boeing said. The previous record of 8,893 miles also was set by a 767. The 767-200ER model can seat 216 passengers and is designed to fly extra- long routes.
