HK Customs seize drugs worth US$3.3m hidden in jeans from Pakistan

HONG Kong customs have seized about 50 kilogrammes of suspected ketamine hidden inside cartons of jeans at the airport and has arrested a 38-year-old man.
Customs officers seized the suspected ketamine with an estimated market value of HKD26.4 million (US$3.3 million) during an inspection of garments from Pakistan.
The drugs were found in 40 tinfoil bags inside the jeans in four of the five cartons. Divisional commander Lau Leung-chi said the man detained a driver and was asked to pick up the goods by the cargo owners. He was later released on bail pending investigation.
The customs suspect that a syndicate was involved and that the drugs were intended for the local market, reports The Standard, Hong Kong.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug carries a maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of HKD5 million and life imprisonment.
