CLEAN POWER giant NextEra Energy has asked the US Commerce Department to either force an secretive group of US solar manufacturers to identify itself or throw out its demands to extend tariffs on Asian solar panels, reports Bloomberg.

NextEra Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo challenged applications filed by the American Solar Manufacturers Against Chinese Circumvention, which seeks to extend import duties to certain Chinese-owned factories in Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand.

The pushback comes amid escalating trade tensions between the US and China over solar panels.

Making photovoltaic panels in a multi-step process that's most commonly done in separate factories. The American Solar Manufacturers Against Chinese Circumvention's petitions argue that this creates an obvious route to circumvent US tariffs against Chinese solar products.

NextEra disputed the retribution claims, arguing that company names don't meet the standard for proprietary treatment.
