CHINA has accused the US of treating them as an imaginary enemy, stating relations are in a dangerous deadlock after the two nations held their second top-level meeting since US President Joe Biden took office, reports London's Financial Times.
China's Vice Foreign Minister Xie Feng said Washington wanted to: "reignite a sense of national purpose by establishing China as an imaginary enemy".
Mr Xie's comments came during meetings with US deputy secretary of state Wendy Sherman in the first face-to-face encounter between top US and Chinese officials since their respective top officials sparred in Alaska in March.
"China-US relations are currently at a deadlock and face serious difficulties," said Mr Xie.
Meanwhile, Mr Biden has warned cyberattacks could escalate into a war as tensions with Russia and China mounted over a series of hacking incidents targeting US government agencies, companies, and infrastructure.
"If we end up in a war, a real shooting war with a major power - it's going to be as a consequence of a cyber breach of great consequence and it's increasing exponentially, the capabilities."
