China's first half cargo container throughput rises 13.2pc

CONTAINER throughput at Chinese ports registered a robust expansion in the first half as the country strives to increase shipping space and container supply, reports Xinhua.
China's ports handled 7.64 billion tonnes of cargo in the first half of 2021, up 13.2 per cent year on year, an increase of 13.9 per cent from the same period in 2019.
China's throughput at ports rose 15 per cent year on year to 140 million TEU, an increase of 8.8 per cent from the same period in 2019.
The capacity on North American routes increased 55 per cent and European routes 30 per cent from the same period last year.
Chinese departments have also organised with container manufacturers to increase output. Currently, the monthly production capacity has reached a record high of more than 500,000 TEU.
