Chinese airline startup controlled by JD.com takes wing

Jiangsu Jingdong Cargo Airlines will be 75 per cent owned by Suqian Jindong Zhanrui Enterprise Management, which is in turn controlled by JD.com founder Richard Liu. The remaining 25 per cent of the company will be owned by Nantong Airport Group. The airline, which received approval from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) earlier this month, will be based in Nantong and will have CNY600 million (US$92.5 million) in capital. The carrier will utilise a fleet of B737-800 freighters on domestic and international services. In partnership with airlines, JD.com has been expanding its air cargo network over recent months as it looks to meet growing e-commerce demand and speed up delivery times.
