Air New Zealand to retire B777-300s mid-2027

AIR New Zealand's Air Chatham plans to end Convair operations in the third quarter while the B777-300 is expected to be retired by mid-2027, reports Switzerland's ch-aviation.
The New Zealand Herald initially reported the carrier's last aircraft of the type, ZK-CIB (MSN 327A), would be retired on July 29.
The last scheduled flight from Chatham Island to Wellington took place and Air Chatham has since deployed it between Auckland Int'l, Christchurch, and Wellington on non-scheduled cargo flights.
"The recent lockdown in New Zealand has seen demand for Convair flights to connect South Island freight to Auckland for international connections," said Air New Zealand CEO Duane Emeny.
Mr Emeny declared the aircraft would be retired in earnest on September 17, 2021.
