AN increase in canal tolls has prompted a US$30 per box Suez Canal surcharge from the Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) for all east-bound shipments from Canada and the US.
MSC has also levied a $75 per TEU and $150 per FEU revised Suez Canal surcharge for westbound Red Sea and East Africa containers from January 1.
Countries affected are Saudi Arabia (King Abdullah), Jordan, Djibouti, Yemen, Egypt (Sokhna Port only), Kenya, Tanzania & Somalia) for US ports, including Puerto Rico.
Due to further increase of the Suez Canal toll fee, MSC is compelled to update the Suez Canal Surcharge (SCS) for all shipments going via the Suez Canal.
