TRUCKING, farming, and heating homes expected to be more expensive as diesel prices surge to highs not seen since 2014, reports Bloomberg News.

Diesel futures in New York have jumped 12 per cent so far this year, settling at US$2.6085 per gallon recently.

Inflation has become one of US economy's biggest challenges, with higher prices increasing the cost of living for Americans.

Diesel prices have risen as US refiners began a heavy maintenance season recently, when fuel stockpiles are already at eight-year lows.

Rising jet fuel demand has also eaten into diesel output in recent months as Americans warm up to air travel again.

Meanwhile, demand for diesel is strong as consumers continue to depend on goods delivered to their doors by trucks.
