DUBAI's Emirates SkyCargo has signed a memorandum of understanding with Dubai CommerCity - the first free zone dedicated to e-commerce in the Middle East and North Africa.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Emirates chairman and CEO Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum.

Emirates SkyCargo is pledged to work with Dubai CommerCity to develop new solutions for the global e-commerce sector.

"Every day Emirates SkyCargo transports a large volume of e-commerce shipments as part of our mail or general cargo," said Emirates vice president Nabil Sultan.

"We are progressing to the next step where we cooperate more closely with e-retailers to get products to customers more quickly and cost effectively," he said.

Said Dubai Airport Free Zone Authority (DAFZA) director general Mohammed Al Zarooni: "Cooperation between Emirates SkyCargo and Dubai CommerCity will enable us to strengthen Dubai's position as a global hub for e-commerce and drive growth."

Dubai CommerCity is a joint venture between DAFZA and Wasl Asset Management Group. Launched in October 2017, Dubai CommerCity aims to boost Dubai's position as an e-commerce hub.

Emirates SkyCargo has developed a number of solutions targeted at Emirates Pharma for temperature-sensitive transport, and fruit and veg, fish and meat, as well as for moving high value cars.
