BOEING received preliminary US regulatory clearance to restart deliveries of its 787 Dreamliner aircraft, reports Bloomberg.

The move will help end the shortage that caused money and dented the planemaker's reputation for quality.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) agreement is a landmark for the company, but it won't immediately resume deliveries.

Boeing must make required fixes and get FAA inspectors to approve each aircraft.

One hundred and twenty of the jets, worth up to US$338 million, were constructed but await the FAA's approval to resume sales to customers.

"We will continue to work transparently with the FAA and our customers towards resuming 787 deliveries," said Boeing.

The resumption will mark a financial turnaround for Boeing after operational lapses frustrated customers, suppliers and investors.
