A RUSTING oil tanker moored in the Red Sea is still waiting for a new vessel to remove its cargo of 1.1 million barrels of oil, said United Nations deputy spokesmam Farhan Haq, reports Abu Dhabi's National News.
The 406,640-dwt FSO Safer, a 1970s-era tanker built to store oil from Yemen's Marib oilfield, is under control of Houthi forces, who occupy a nearby port after gaining ground during Yemen's eight-year civil war.
It can store up to three million barrels of oil but currently holds more than one million barrels in a rusting hull that officials say is "irreversibly" damaged and leaking.
