Kuehne+Nagel and Lenovo link up to support SAF use

KUEHNE+NAGEL (K+N) is joining forces with technology company Lenovo to create a green logistics service that enables customers to buy carbon reduction credits that support the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
Through a purchase add-on, customers will be able to buy credits to reduce the carbon footprint associated with the shipping of IT equipment and devices.
They will have the opportunity to use these credits to fund the use of SAF, a fuel produced from sustainable feedstocks that when used reduces GHG emissions.
Through this service, a specific amount of litres of SAF provided by Kuehne+Nagel will be assigned to a purchased device.
That equates to a specific amount of CO2 that the customer may be able to claim as a reduction of Scope 3.1. emissions for purchased goods and services.
When opting for SAF, Kuehne+Nagel will provide an emission reduction certificate to Lenovo and its customers indicating the amount of SAF litres per purchased device for any trade lane and carrier handling the shipment, reports London's Air Cargo News.
Yngve Ruud, member of the management board of Kuehne+Nagel, responsible for air logistics, said: "Kuehne+Nagel continues to develop easy and value-adding sustainable shipping options for its customers.
"We are pleased that Lenovo chose our innovative SAF concept which offers emission certificates not only to Lenovo but also to its customers and thus supports all stakeholders across their supply chain in achieving their SBTi targets. Now, Lenovo customers can avoid CO2 emissions while shipping air freight regardless of the lane or airline."
