TENTATIVE plans are in the works to establish an air cargo hub at Milwaukee's old Air Force Reserve base, reports the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

"It is an exciting proposal and consistent with the airport's master plan, which was adopted by the County Board in 2022," said Mitchell International Airport public affairs directo Harold Mester.

Plans call for a 288,000-square foot building to be built on a site formerly used by the 440th Airlift Wing of the US Air Force Reserve, which moved to North Carolina in 2007.

Dallas-based Crow Holdings would develop the building, known as the South Cargo Logistics Hub, according to a statement from CBRE Inc, which would market the development.

"The proposed project will serve as a legitimate option for cargo tenants looking to avoid congestion and costs associated with O'Hare in Chicago, the statement said.

The building, with 74 docks and 99 trailer stalls, could open in the second half of 2024 if the project receives approvals from local, state and federal officials.
