TURKISH Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu announced that the death toll from the devastating earthquakes increased to 48,448, reports Reuters.
Including those killed in Syria, the combined death toll now stands at over 54,000.
Mr Soylu revealed that the number of foreign nationals who lost their lives in Turkey was 6,660, mostly Syrians, and authorities were still trying to identify 1,615 victims.
The earthquakes injured 115,000 people in Turkey, leaving millions seeking shelter in tents or attempting to relocate to other cities.
Although Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan pledged to rebuild homes within a year, it will take several months before thousands can move out of their tents or container housing into permanent homes.
The government plans to establish 115,585 containers in 239 locations across the affected region, with 23 sites set up and 21,000 containers currently in use, housing 85,000 people.
