IN June, air cargo tonnages showed a year-on-year improvement, with a decrease of four per cent compared to the previous year, which was better than the six per cent decline observed in May, reports Bahrain's TradeArabia.
However, April still saw a drop of ten per cent year-on-year.
Average rates remained relatively stable throughout June, with a decline of approximately 38 per cent compared to the previous year, according to the report.
Specifically looking at week 26 (June 26 to July 2), there was a similar four per cent decline in tonnages compared to the previous year, but there was a slight increase in average global air cargo prices on a week-on-week basis.
These figures are based on WorldACD's comprehensive data covering over 400,000 weekly transactions.
When comparing weeks 25 and 26 with the preceding two weeks (weeks 23 and 24), overall tonnages decreased three per cent, while capacity increased one per cent and average worldwide rates remained stable.
Regionally, significant declines were observed in cargo volumes from Europe to the Middle East & South Asia (down 14 per cent), between the Middle East & South Asia and Asia Pacific (westbound: down five per cent, eastbound: down nine per cent), and between Africa and Europe (northbound: down 11 per cent, southbound: down five per cent).
These declines were partly attributed to the Eid al-Adha holiday at the end of June.
Additionally, notable changes included a decrease in cargo from Asia Pacific to North America (down six per cent) and an increase in the opposite direction, from North America to Asia Pacific (up ten per cent), as indicated by the data.
Regarding pricing, average rates remained stable on a regional level when comparing the two-week period, except for two exceptions: rates from the Middle East & South Asia to Asia Pacific experienced a decline of ten per cent, and rates from North America to Asia Pacific showed a decrease of five per cent.
