ACCORDING to data from Sea-Intelligence Maritime Analysis, carriers have significantly reduced the number of cancelled sailings from Asia to the US west and east coasts for June, reports New York's Journal of Commerce.

The total number of blanked sailings amounted to 157,830 TEU, which is the lowest figure since November 2020.

During that period, carriers cancelled 137,167 TEU of US sailings while keeping 2.18 million TEU of capacity available.

Among the cancelled sailings in June, services from Asia to the US west coast accounted for the majority, with 149,363 TEU not operating, while 1.34 million TEU remained in service.

In the earlier months of the second quarter, ocean carriers had aggressively matched supply to demand by implementing extensive cancellations in April and May.

These service cuts were accompanied by general rate increases as an incentive for beneficial cargo owners to sign annual service contracts.

Sea-Intelligence's weekly report noted the rapid reversal in 2023, highlighting that by mid-June, the level of blank sailings reached an all-time low since the beginning of the pandemic.
