THE Department of Transportation's (DOTr) in the Philippines has suggested approaches to address longstanding concerns surrounding container deposits which have garnered praise from an international shipping lines trade association, reports Philippines Inquirer.

In a statement, the Association of International Shipping Lines (AISL) noted that the solutions proposed by the DOTr hold greater promise compared to alternative measures put forth by port authorities.

The AISL) commended the DOTr's approach, which it described as "democratic". The DOTr has presented a trio of options, offering stakeholders the ability to select the most fitting resolution from the provided choices.

"We can only commend the creativity of the transportation secretary for coming up with a set of viable options, which shipping lines can choose from in order to solve the container deposit problem which, for years, has been a source of irritants between the importing community and international shipping lines," said AISL president Patrick Ronas.
