AMIDST the scorching and historically high temperatures in Phoenix, Arizona, the city has taken precautionary steps to address potential morgue overflow, reports Jersey City's Forbes magazine.

As reported by various sources, 10 refrigerated containers were transported to Phoenix this week.

Maricopa County, known for its substantial population of over 4.5 million residents, brought these eight-foot by 20-foot refrigerated containers to a nearby parking garage, adjacent to the county medical examiner's office.

The move comes as the medical examiner's office faces significant challenges due to the heatwave.

The office typically has the capacity to hold 224 bodies, with a surge capacity of 358. However, both capacities have been reached, according to Jason Berry, a spokesman for Maricopa County.

As of now, the refrigerated containers remain unutilized for storing bodies. Nevertheless, the intake surge has been more severe than the usual surges experienced in July.

The rising heat-related deaths in the county have reached 25 this year.

The provision of additional refrigerated containers serves as a necessary measure to ensure the city's preparedness in managing the potential impact of extreme temperatures on public health.
