KOREAN Air is taking proactive steps to promote sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in collaboration with its air cargo customers and forwarders, reports Air Cargo News Awards.
Under the Korean Air Cargo SAF programme, customers will have the opportunity to make personalized contributions to reduce their carbon footprint.
These contributions will be utilized by Korean Air to procure additional SAF, and customers will be informed of the amount of carbon emissions saved through the use of SAF.
This initiative aligns with the airline's ongoing commitment to reduce carbon emissions and raise awareness within the air cargo industry as part of its larger goal to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Korean Air has been actively engaged in the Korean government's "eco-friendly biofuel activation alliance" since October of the previous year, aiming to introduce and promote new biofuel solutions in Korea.
The airline intends to maintain its collaboration with government bodies, private organizations, and fuel producers to assess various domestic and international demonstration projects that aim to increase SAF production and its application in aviation.
"We're pleased to work together with our clients to reduce carbon emissions from cargo operations through the SAF programme," said Korean Air Cargo senior vice president Jaedong Eum.
"Korean Air is committed to sustainable development with our next generation in mind."
