AMAZON has discreetly adjusted the minimum spending requirement for customers to qualify for free shipping on its platform, reports The Manila Times.
Customers without Prime memberships now need to spend US$35, a bump up from the previous threshold of $25.
Amazon representative Kristina Pressentin confirmed that the company is testing this new qualification, a development initially reported by the eCommerce Bytes blog.
This alteration does not affect Prime members who already enjoy free shipping and other benefits as part of their $14.99 monthly subscription or $139 annual membership fee.
At present, the updated $35 minimum appears to be applicable based on the customer's location, as reported by the consumer education website Consumer World.
For instance, it pointed out that Seattle, where Amazon's headquarters is located, maintains the previous $25 minimum, while non-Prime customers in nearby Bellevue now have to meet the $35 spending threshold to qualify for free shipping.
