INSTITUTE of Standards and Industrial Research of Iran (ISIRI) head Mehdi Eslam-Panah has marked a significant moment by inaugurating two major projects at Shahid Rajaei Port, Iran's largest and most well-equipped container port, reports Tehran Times
These projects encompass the comprehensive renovation of Axis 4 and the transit and export terminal within the Shahid Rajaei port complex, as reported by Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO).
The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of Hormozgan Province governor Mehdi Dousti, and Hormozgan Ports and Maritime Department director general Hossein Abbas-Nejad.
Abbas-Nejad, speaking at the event, highlighted that the commencement of these projects would increase the container storage and transit capacity of Shahid Rajaee Port by 8,000 TEU, consequently enhancing the efficiency of port operations.
Currently, the port has a transit and container storage capacity of 145,000 TEU.
The private sector has provided the funding for completing the transit and export terminal at Shahid Rajaei Port, which includes a warehouse and a container storage area spanning 128,633 square metres.
The investment for this project amounted to over US$81.5 million, according to Abbas-Nejad.
Additionally, the overhaul project of Axis 4 at Shahid Rajaei Port, aimed at enhancing road quality and safety leading to the port complex, was executed with a budget of $1.7 million.
Shahid Rajaee Port stands out with its cutting-edge container terminals and state-of-the-art port facilities, accounting for 85 per cent of the total loading and unloading activities in Iranian ports.
Due to its pivotal role in the country's import, export, transit, and transshipment operations, the development of Shahid Rajaee Port ranks among the most crucial national development projects in Iran.
