THE Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) has maintained its strategic commitment to promoting rapid rail freight in the port at full speed, reports London's Port Technology.
So far in 2023, the port authority has recorded 2,180 trains (an average of 87 per week), 45,311 cars, 498 metres in average length, 116,792 TEU, 30,642 cars, and 1,154,072 tonnes of merchandise.
All of these statistics have a higher value than in 2022. The port credits its success to factors such as efficiency and intermodality.
Said port authority president Joan Calabuig: "The railway is a key element in the structure of movements of the Port of Valencia.
"Our objective is to continue increasing this traffic quota, betting on the train, the long-distance lines and the improvement of the infrastructures of our inland network.
"A commitment that not only translates into the Valencian precinct but also includes the Port of Sagunto with works that are progressing at a good pace to provide this precinct with a direct rail service."
In terms of cargo, total rail traffic entering or departing the Port of Valencia was 1,154,072 tonnes, an 11 per cent increase over the first half of 2022.
A total of 45,311 railcars have been deployed for this purpose, a 10 per cent increase. The railway controlled 30,642 vehicles during this time period, which was four times higher than the previous year.
