THE Nigerian Navy has reportedly set first to a contraband 34,094-dwt Cecilia loaded with nearly 350,000 litres of stolen automated gas oil in Port Harcourt, reports Bangalore's MarineInsight.
The Nigerian Navy intercepted the vessel arresting three men, which was serving at a storage tank for illegally refined products such a automated gas oil.
The Commander of Operation Delta Safe, who reportedly confirmed the incident, said the vessel was inactive for two years.
He said that the water tanks were converted into storage tanks for unlawful products and that the vessel hadn't been to sea in the past two years.
Before it was finally put set on fire, two naval gunboats with experienced personnel had strategically escorted the impounded oil vessel alongside one tug boat.
They successfully managed to push the vessel to a safe location at the sea, where it soon was engulfed in flame. The procedure took about two hours.
