Alibaba names Joe Tsai founder-chairman, succeeds Daniel Zhang

ALIBABA has undergone an unexpected reorganisation as co-founder Joe Tsai takes on the role of chairman, succeeding Daniel Zhang, who is stepping down, reports SCMP.
In an initiative series introduced by the incoming chairman Joe Tsai in June, the recently launched Cainiao Express service has emerged in partnership with Tmall Supermarket.
Additionally, Alibaba's Taobao Tmall Commerce Group is establishing an independent logistics division to effectively address its specific delivery requirements.
Notably, Alibaba holds ownership of Hong Kong's South China Morning Post. Analysts emphasise that victory in China's intense online shopping rivalry hinges on factors like delivery costs and service excellence.
"Free shipping is a very effective means to compete in a crowded market and draw users from lower-tier markets,¡± said Bailian founder Zhuang Shuai.
