THE Malaysian cabinet has agreed to Westports Holdings proposed expansion plan for its port, the company said in a stock exchange filing, reported Kuala Lumpur's Edge.
Westports said its wholly owned Westports Malaysia Sdn Bhd (WMSB) had received a letter from the Port Klang Authority (PKA) saying that the company's proposed expansion of its container terminals 10 to 17 had been presented to the cabinet on July 25.
However, the expansion was only approved for container terminals 10-17, instead of 10-19, the group said.
Ownership of the proposal will be registered under PKA, and PKA will lease the related lands to WMSB, with a lease period and annual lease payment to be determined later.
The secretary general of the Ministry of Transport will execute the Supplementary Privatisation Agreement with PKA and WMSB, once the agreement has been reviewed and confirmed ready for execution by the Attorney General's Chambers, Westport said.
The proposed expansion is expected to increase Westports' current capacity of 14 million TEU by 13 million TEU to 27 million TEU in the next 10 years.
